Angmering began life as a small West Sussex village but has seen a large amount of development on the periphery in the last 10 years. Lying in between Littlehampton and Worthing, it is on the southern edge of the South Downs National Park, and about two-thirds of the parish falls within the Park.
Ashurst is a small rural West Sussex village that is situated between Steyning and Partridge Green. It has an excellent pub called ‘The Fountain’ and a village hall which was originally set up to give the local working farmers a place to socialise other than the pub! It has been a lively and popular hall ever since and the old hall was recently replaced with a brand new one which runs film nights, theatre productions and can also be booked for local events.
Bramber is a small historic village in West Sussex. It has a ruined mediaeval castle built by feudal Baron William De Braose, which is well worth a visit and the Church of St Nicholas was originally built as the castle chapel and is the only part of the castle site not in ruins.
Brighton is a much-loved seaside resort and is one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove. Located on the south coast in the county of East Sussex, archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates to the Bronze Age.
Henfield is a delightful large rural market village that still retains its rural character with a history dating from 770 AD. It is situated on a ridge overlooking the River Adur and the South Downs and close to Small Dole and Upper Beeding on the West & Shermanbury and Cowfold on the East.
Lancing although technically still a village, is today a large sprawl of mixed age properties, most of which are the result of a massive amount of building after WW2. Before the wars the area was well known in the nineteenth century as a coastal resort for the wealthy and for its horticulture, particularly the growing of watercress.
Partridge Green is a village that exists in amongst a network of peaceful hamlets in the West Sussex area, sharing its borders with West Grinstead, Cowfold and Ashurst.
Shoreham-By-Sea is a pretty seaside town with a harbour and commercial port bordering Southwick to the east and Lancing to the west. The town also benefits from having the beautiful South Downs to the north and to the south the tidal river Adur and the very desirable Shoreham Beach area.
Small Dole is a small quiet village in West Sussex, lying two miles (3.2 km) south of Henfield. The centre of the village houses a large pub, small convenience store and post office and a small industrial estate, plus a football ground and skate park. It also has a thriving Village Hall which can be hired for local events.
Southwater is a large village in West Sussex located approximately 4 miles south of the town of Horsham and to the north of Washington, Ashington and Storrington. From the late 19th century up until 1981, the brick industry dominated the area.
Steyning is a historic 15th century market town in West Sussex which is situated in the beautiful South Downs National Park. It has a vibrant community of around 6,000 people and an interesting high street where there are a variety of facilities including four public houses, many boutique shops, post office, cafés, an Italian restaurant and local estate agents.
Upper Beeding is a West Sussex village on the River Adur, opposite Bramber and close to Steyning, which is just within the South Downs National Park Boundary. ‘Beeding’ (locals drop the ‘Upper’ part of the name) first enters the history books in AD 858 when Aethelwulf, father of Alfred the Great died there and was buried in Steyning.
